Hey I thought you were only supposed to Peck Wood? |
This acorn woodpecker was caught in the act at my house in the last week of June. There have been 2-3 woodpeckers visiting our feeders daily.
Acorn Woodpeckers get their name from the peculair trait of drilling holes in trees in the fall to store acorns. During summer they eat mostly insects. The Acorn woodpecker is found in the western half of Oregon and California, and in Arizona, New Mexico and down throughout Mexico.
They are common in Ben Lomond. Once you recognize their screeching call you will realize how very often they are around us. The acorn woodpecker lives in small gregarious flocks. Large mature oaks seem to be the acorn woodpeckers favorite plant. However, they also like pines |

Chipping In
As a result of the recent rains (11/29 to 12/1), many of the drains and culverts on Park Drive became plugged with leaves and debris. I'd like everyone to join me in thanking Paul Lawton (Paul Lawton Construction) for sending one of his employees to clear the debris and get the drains running again. Paul did this on his own initiative and at his own expense and I'd like to thank him on behalf of all of us who depend on safe and clear roads to access our homes.Joel Tarbox, President

Many Hands Make Light Work
Road Association President, Joel Tarbox, reports that the road work party on November 12th was a great success. Due in part to the great
turnout and the previous work party in September, the work crew was
able to clear the drainage ditches and culverts in about one hour. A
big thanks to all of you that donated your time, labor and materials to
get the job done and keep our roads maintained. There are no more work
parties on the schedule at this time. Joel will keep an eye on the
status of the roads and will form future parties during the winter as
they become necessary. In the interim, please help keep our roads safe
and functioning by clearing road ditches and culverts near your
property.
Paving Scheduled
- Paving repairs were delayed due to the rains on November 7 & 8.
Granite Construction has rescheduled our paving/patching work to
begin
on Tuesday, November 22.
- I am looking for a volunteer or two to be available as a contact for
Granite on these paving days. I will not be available. You do not need
to follow the work crews around, you just need to be available as a
point of contact while the crews are here. Anyone available, should
call or e-mail me and I can provide details. (336-3723,
president@benlomond.org)
- Granite will have fill available as the tear up the old road. They
will deliver to whomever wants it. If you have an interest, please let
em know. (336-3723, president@benlomond.org)
V-Ditches
- Earthworks is slated to repair v-ditches on Park Drive and the
culvert at Park and Pike. They are awaiting a final purchase order from
the County to begin work before they can schedule the work.

Thank You September
Volunteers
On behalf
of the Road Association, I'd like to extend a big thanks to all of
you
who
helped
with our
Fall
work party. This work party was, without a doubt, our most successful
and well attended. We had over 20 people, several weed whackers and
a couple of tractors working hard to get our drainage ditches and
culverts cleared for the rains. Due to the high turnout, we were
able to cover nearly the entire road system in under four hours.
For those of you who were not able to lend a hand but drove by while
we were working, thank you for slowing down.
As a reminder, our next work party will be on Saturday, November
12 at 9 a.m. We made great progress today, but a lot more redwood
spills, leafs and debris are going to fall and a successful November
12th work party will go a long way toward keeping our roads passible
this winter.
Thank you,
Joel Tarbox, President
Lomond Terrace Road Association (CSA 28)
